BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College field hockey team will open its 2019 season on Saturday, August 31 when the Lions host Centenary University on General Ronald K. Nelson Field. The complete 14-game schedule was released by head coach Katie Fitzgerald Friday.
After opening the season at home, Bryn Athyn goes on the road for consecutive non-conference tilts against Neumann on Sept. 7 and Delaware Valley on Sept. 13. The Lions return to General Nelson Field for a showdown with visiting Sweet Briar on Sept. 15.
The Lions get a little over a week off before going back on the road on Sept. 23 to face Wilkes for the first time in program history. On Sept. 28, Bryn Athyn hosts Southern Virginia, a first-year NCAA Division III, to close out the month.
The start of October also brings the beginning of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with the Lions heading west to take on Lancaster Bible, who joins the league this season as an affiliate member, on Oct. 3. Conference play continues on Oct. 7 with a home contest against Wilson.
Bryn Athyn has a busy weekend lined up on Oct. 12-13 with the Lions starting the weekend off by trailing to Centenary for a rematch with their CSAC opponent and then coming home to face Sage in a non-conference contest.
Conference play resumes for the Lions on Oct. 19 when the Lions traveling to Maryland to take on the College of Notre Dame (Md.). The Lions square off with 2018 CSAC regular season and tournament champion Keystone on General Nelson Field on Oct. 26.
Bryn Athyn has one final non-conference game on the slate, coming on Oct. 30 at Drew, who Bryn Athyn will play for the first time. The regular season wraps up at home on Nov. 2 against CSAC opponent Cedar Crest.
The Lions are coming off on a 2-11 campaign and had four players named to the All-CSAC team in 2018.
