Lions fall to Tufts in Codfish Bowl Tournament on late goal

BOSTON – The Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team wrapped up the 54th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament with a 2-1 loss to Tufts University on an Anthony Farinacci goal with 1:51 left in the game Saturday afternoon at UMass Boston.

The sequence began with a Bryn Athyn turnover in the neutral zone. Farinacci crossed the blue line and delivered a cross-ice pass over to Nick Schultze on the right boards. Schultze dropped the puck back to Farinacci at the right faceoff circle and Farinacci wristed a shot by the right pad of McKenzie Chalmers.

Farinacci opened the scoring with his first goal of the afternoon at the 12:19 mark of the first period. Justin Brandt and Cory Gottfried both picked up an assist on the play.

Bryn Athyn (4-12-0) turned the offensive pressure in the second period, firing 19 shots at the Tufts (5-6-0) net. However, the Lions were unable to beat Josh Sarlo, who ended up with 36 saves and find the equalizer.

The Lions would eventually break through in the third to tie the score at one on Vojtech Luza's fourth goal of the season at 13:28. Tanner Schroeder stole the puck behind the Tufts net and flicked it into the slot. Luza stepped into a shot and found the upper right corner of the cage to make the game level at one.

Chalmers recorded 32 saves for the Lions.

Bryn Athyn heads to Curry for a weekend series against the Colonels starting on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4:50 p.m.
