PITTSTON, Pa. – Devon Becker scored the game-winning goal 8:01 into the third period and Gabriel Couture stopped 30 shots as the Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team surged past King's (Pa.) College, 3-1 Saturday night in the Revolution Ice Centre.
Bryn Athyn (3-2-1) went into the third leading 1-0 but saw that lead evaporate when King's' Matt Ameilo leveled the score at the 5:41 mark with an assist from Tommy Cahill.
Then, Becker would notch his team-leading third goal of the season with the Lions on the power play to put Bryn Athyn back in front. Zach Pamaylaon notched an assist on the goal. Becker's goal snapped the Lions' 0-for-22 streak on the man advantage.
Pamaylaon capped off a three-point evening by icing the victory with an empty-net goal coming with 60 seconds left on the clock. Tanner Schroeder and Nick Malvasi both assisted on Pamaylaon's second goal of the year.
Schoeder got Bryn Athyn on the board with his first goal of the 2019-20 campaign 4:40 into the contest with assists from Matt Echelmeier and Pamaylaon.
Couture was stellar in his collegiate debut and played a major role in keeping the Monarchs off the board in the first two periods, making 23 of his 30 saves during the opening 40 minutes.
The Bryn Athyn penalty killers also had a strong night as the Lions didn't allow a goal during any of the Monarchs' seven power-play opportunities.
King's netminder Tyler Sayger recorded 27 saves.
Bryn Athyn has a week off before heading to Massachusetts for a showdown with Stonehill on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
