Men's soccer falls to Juniata in first road test of season

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's soccer team dropped its first road contest of the 2019 season, 5-0, to host Juniata Friday night in Gibbel Stadium.

The Lions battled the Eagles in a scoreless deadlock for the opening 44 minutes. Juniata (3-1-0) attempted seven shots during that time, two requiring saves by Bryn Athyn keeper DJ Eldridge, while Bryn Athyn fired off three shots.

Then, the Eagles broke through at the 44:14 mark on a Logan Storti corner kick. Storti's corner kick deflected off Johnny King and was put into the goal by Michael Realbuto.

Michael Haas nearly drew the Lions level 21 seconds later, but his shot attempt was saved by Jacob Owings.

Jarrod Gibson doubled the Juniata to two when he scored at 57:05 with an assist from Storti. Juniata put the game away with three goals in the final 8:09 of the contest. Bass Diakhoumpa scored at 81:51 for the third goal. After a Bryn Athyn own goal made it a 4-0 game at 86:22, Wyatt Page produced the final margin 2:10 later.

Eldridge finished the match with two saves, while Owings made one.

Bryn Athyn (0-2-0) has a quick turnaround because the Lions have a meeting with Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.
