Women's basketball tripped up in road test at York (N.Y.)

JAMAICA, N.Y. --  The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team suffered a 78-51 non-conference setback to York (N.Y.) College Tuesday night.

Jayda Campbell was Bryn Athyn's (1-4) top scorer with 16 points and also added seven rebounds. Clayshonia Cogmon picked up her second double-double of the season as she racked up 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lions got off to a slow start and fell into an early 6-0 hole. Campbell got Bryn Athyn on the board with two successful free throws just over three minutes into the contest and jump-started a 7-0 run that put the Lions in front by one.

After the Cardinals (1-3) reclaimed a four-point lead (11-7), the Lions answered right back with four straight points to level the score at 11 on two Maylissa Clarke free throws with 1:30 left in the quarter.

Campbell scored four straight points during the second quarter to give Bryn Athyn a 22-19 advantage just past the midway point.

It would be Bryn Athyn's final lead of the night as York went ran off 12 straight points over the duration of the second quarter and its first possession of the third quarter. The basket kicked off a 10-minute period where the Cardinals shot 9-of-14 from the field and outscored the Lions 25-15 to take a 54-37 lead.

York kept up the hot shooting in the fourth, going 8-of-13 to win the final frame 24-14.

The Cardinals had four players score in double figures, led by a game-high 20 points from Ellma Hodzic. Keyla Cabrera posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a reserve role. Daniesha Newsome and Kristina Sierra added 10 points each.

Bryn Athyn travels to Clarks Summit to open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m.
